![]() In 2016 the BCV picnic wich was held at Pound Bent on the Yarra in Warrandyte. We all enjoyed the national day, mussels festival and Saint Nicolas celebration. BCV also organised a Easter Egg Hunt at Lysterfield Lake. The Belgians got some extra opportunities to feel patriotic during the 2016 Soccer European Cup. After a difficult first game against Italy, the Red Devils made it strongly through to the quarter finals. Despite the hour difference, the Red Devil supporters in Melbourne proudly gathered to see the Belgian national team play. We were happy to see again this year a satisfactory attendance to the various events, with both new and well known faces. The Erasmus Foundation invited us to the screening of Admiral. The Dutch movie based on the life of the legendary admiral Michiel de Ruyter, partially recorded in Belgium.
Unfortunately this was also the year of the horrible events happening in Brussels on the 22nd of March. During the vigil held on Fed Square here in Melbourne, followed the next day by a Mass in St Pauls Cathedral. We were very thankfull of the support of our and the Australian community here. Definately in times like these, when it's a hard reality not to be close to our family and friends.

I know that this event happened almost four years ago, but I still want to congratulate all people who organized the Belgian Club Victoria picnic event. I was evident that everyone, especially the members had fun on that special day that was made by BCV for its people. Though I am not sure if you will have it once again this year once the situation gets better, I am hoping that there will be one. I am sure that a lot of your members would be interested to join the event.
